Mrs Saunders was given the second name "Ruahine" because her brother, who was working in the Maori Land Courts in Wellington at the time (1918), was told it meant "second daughter" ; the family later found it meant "old woman". Zita Saunders (nee Mathews) is the youngest child of her family - parents Matthew and Elizabeth (nee Watkins) of Temuka and Pleasant Point - q.v.
