Description
Compressed 'melon' shaped body, raised-hinged lid with cast knob in form of seated Chinese with upraised left arm (not original), and pinned ebony handle with prominent thumb-rest. Shell shaped hinge (rectangular) 'sitting' on rim of opening; circular lid with shallow dome and raise floral decoration with C scrolls. Knob (as above) attached with small wing nut, stamped with lion rampant, ? of later date. [Note probably original knob of ivory or ebony - replaced prior to donor's acquisition of piece early in 20th century.] Rim of opening in form of horizontal flared scrolls - pierced. Body of teapot has dimpled surfaced and raised C scrolls, daisy-like flowers and buds, and two reserves depicting putti-
a) Three with basket of grapes, foliage and palm-like trees.
b) Two seated, one with cornucopia, the other with a small bird, as well as foliage and palm-like trees.
Blank area in centre for engraved monogram etc. Curved spout with flat rim, palm leaves either side and two putti at base, shells and acanthus leaves at rim. Terminals of handle: base has embossed leafy scroll, top has spreading leaf. Circular scalloped foot with similar decoration to body.
