Skis: Byrd Expedition 1928-1930

Description
One pair of wooden cross country skis with attached bindings, owned by Percival Wallis, a member of Admiral Byrd's 1928-30 expedition to Antarctica. The skis have a Tubbs sticker on them and a letter written on them to indicate which is left and right along with the name P Wallis on each ski.

Provenance details
Percy Wallis was a tailor on Byrd's 1928-30 Antarctic expedition and was the only New Zealander to over winter on the ice on this expedition. The other two New Zealanders were assigned on board the City of New York. The items were donated by Percy's son Ian Wallis and his wife Susan.
