Provenance details
Theo Schoon undertook a nearly five year apprenticeship where he learned to grow, preserve and carve gourds. He trained under master carver Pine Taiapa and was influenced by ta moko motifs. This gourd represents an early example of Schoon's experimentation with the artform and it’s designs are simpler than his later, more well-known gourd artworks.: Mr Theo Schoon: Circa 1965
