Description
Cover envelope for the Golden Jubilee Great Barrier Island Pigeongram Stamp, 1898-1948, issued by the Auckland Philatelic Society. Two New Zealand Postage and Revenue and Health stamps are affixed to the envelope: a one penny and a two pence. These are postmarked 'N.Z. OKUPU 19NO48 A'. A one shilling Golden Jubilee Great Barrier Island Special Post stamp is postmarked 'THE ORIGINAL GREAT BARRIER PIGEOGRAM SERVICE'. An 'AIR MAIL/PAR AVION' stamp is printed on to the envelope. A description of the commemorative cover is printed on the back of the envelope. It is addressed to 'Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, c/o Auckland Philatelic Society (Inc.) C.P.O Box 1932, Auckland C.1.' An information card describing the history of the Great Barrier Island Pigeon Post is enclosed.
