Description
First day cover of the New Zealand Health Stamps, 1939, printed with a drawing of a boy and a girl and the words 'Christchurch Sunlight League Health Camp Committee - Health camps for the children'. Two conjoined one penny New Zealand Postage Health stamps are affixed to the envelope. The stamps sold for one and a half pence and the proceeds above postage were donated to children's health camps. The stamps were originally printed as half penny stamps, but were overprinted '1d'. Postmarked 'CHRISTCHURCH C.I. N.Z. 5-25P 16 OCT 1939 BUY HEALTH STAMPS FOR HEALTH CAMPS' on the front of the envelope and 'TAITAPU N.Z 17 OC 39 1' on the reverse of the envelope.
