Page: Heaton Rhodes Stamp Album
One page titled '1872. Provisional printing on the paper of 1864 with 'NZ' watermark. The use of this and of other special paper was due to the fact that it had been decided to have a new issue produced by surface-printing for which the star paper was not suitable. In anticipation of the early arrival of the new plates, stocks of the star paper were allowed to run short and a delay in the new issue necessitated further printings of the full-faces. The 1d. is exceedingly scarce and the 2d. with the compound perforation is one of the great rarities among New Zealand issues.' Three affixed objects are titled 'Perf 12 1/2. 1d. Brown' and one affixed object is titled 'Perf compound of 10 and 12 1/2. 2d. Orange-vermilion'.
