Stamp: New Zealand Four Pence
Production date
1865-1871
Description
One postage stamp, New Zealand Postage, four pence with postmark. The rose colour of the 4d was found to cause confusion with the 1d and it was decided to use a yellow ink. The plate was not properly cleaned and stamps from the first two or three sheets after the change show traces of the rose ink on top of the yellow in places, particularly in the corners. In addition to these 'freaks,' some sheets were printed with ink of a true orange-yellow shade. Watermark large star, perforated 12 1/2.
