Stamp: New Zealand Two Pence
Production date
1867-1871
Description
One postage stamp, New Zealand Postage, two pence with postmark. Late in 1866, Plate 2 was overheated with the result that the nickel surfacing scaled. Printing continued from the plate in the damaged condition until late in 1867 when an effort was made to improve the impressions. A skilled engraver, J.M. Lloyd, was asked to retouch the plate. Some of the damaged portion was not even touched and there was little attempt to go over the original lines.
