Description
One postage stamp, New Zealand Postage, one penny with postmark. Watermark N.Z. In 1864 the Government installed a perforating machine at the Office of the Postmaster-General, Auckland. In its original form this was a comb machine, the horizontal row of the pins gauging 12 1/2 and the vertical rows varying from 12 1/2 to 12 3/4. Very few sheets of the 1d and 1s values on the N.Z. paper were run through the machine and copies are exceedingly rare.
