Marks/Inscriptions: W.L. Teschemaker T.16 Eliza Pitman about 70. The name Pitman was famous in the rowing world. He and his wife returned to N.Z. about '74 and Teschemaker rebuilt his house and lived there till his death in '88 . Kauroo Hell was sold to the Govt for closer settlement in 1817 Having at last got his run he and Rich went back to get his sheep. Torlese gioes us a date in his invaluable Journal : 13.5.54 helped Rich and Teschemaker across the Ashley with their sheep. The length of time from Han mer to Kauroo Hell i variously stated - oue as g mon thus. Teschemaker carried a small hand mell and ground enough Wheat into four every day for their needs. When they went through the Levels they gave notice , as required but Geo. Rhodes was away. . When he returned and Found they had pas d through he was furious and pins ied them , but the sheep were well over the Pareora Rie - the boundary, when he ear git them. Rhodes and Teschemaker had A famous row over it. They had to shear and dip their sheep on the wary and Teschemak r had to ride to Dunedin for abacos for the dipping.
