Marks/Inscriptions: S. 852 Strouts , Frederick (1835-1919) came out in the Victory - arriving 14.5.59 He was the second son of E. Strouts of John sea , Kent and was an architect and surveyor . Also on the ship was James George Hawkes with his wife and '2 ch.; he was an ironmonger . These wo went into part. bot ith which seemed a curious thing. But the reason was that their wives were sisters of rather were to be when Strouts got married( their partner ship lasted many years. Strouts married at St. Michaels 30.4.61 Rose lock youngest t dau of James Spar hott R.N. They were similar trf pes of men, public spirited, good church men, good Citizens. Straits was a foundation member of the Architects Assoc. formed in '76 . They bilt new premises for themselves in Hereford St. where Tonks + Norton haney since carried on their bus ness. He won prizes at the Ch.Ch . Horticultural Show in Nov. 63. His wife to be came out in the Harwood 12.12.60. He was architec t for the new Kaiapoi Borough School a buck building still standing" was an import ant building in its day and cost C3000 ; builders, Prudhoe + Cooper. He frequently judged at Flower shows as well as exhibiting. He and his wife + family of 5 went for a trip to Eng. returning LT. Conn and Strouts prepared to +resign his captained in the C.Y.C. Members prepared a petition that he should be allowed to hold his command and Si J.C. Wilson approved and in the end he continued his post. Strouts took over the designing of the Canty. Club When Armson was too l to carry on and was unable to produce the plans in trime It was planned to cost £ 3000 an d B. Reese tendered £3363. Land furniture ce brought the total cost to £p200. He was architect of the 7line Coly beautiful but too ambitious fam buildings , in the Dutch Colonial Style - cost £10772.
