Marks/Inscriptions: S. 298 Sheat, Caleb ezekiel (1841- 1917) was born at Moira in Leicester hire and came out with his wife in the Capt. Cook arriving 2.9.63 ; his two brothers . Amos and Andrew were also on the ship. They worked to gether in Lylt. as Sherratt Broo as contractors . They built part of the Lylt. to Ch.Ch. road and the stone embankment s. They also carried out road contracts at Akaroa. Kaitieke + Sumner. He and Amos were both at Geraldine later on He was clerk to the Geraldine Rd. Bd 71-84 when he was dis mosed as an economy Measure. May 84 ; Shiers the overseer had to tahe over his work. He was clerk to the Mag. Court at Geraldine also. He was an office bearer and local preacher of the Methodist church. He d. 19.8.17 ag. 76 left a widow , 2 sons, 2 daus sons W. Caleb) y Geraldine Noah ) both of dons Mes A. Boneless of Geraldine W. Trengi one of Timaru. He was clerk to first Geraldine Town Bd of which R.H. Pierpont was chairmen.
