Marks/Inscriptions: S. 191 Selfe - Selfe , Henry (1810 -70) was born 15.11.1810 at Rose Hill, near Worcester . His orinda surname wao Page , but he changed it to Selfe on succeeding to his maternal grand in others property in Throw bridge Wore. He was educ. at Glasgow Liv. and was called to the Bar in 1836 . He practised his profession and was appointed stip magistrate having previously been Recorder of New bury . He was chairman of the Commission whos h which sat to enquire into the Weedon defaecation s cornering war stores sent out to the Crimea. He was provincial agent for Canty in Eng. for many years and was one of those who came forward to help the Province when it was financially embarrassed. He applied fir a land order to the Canty Assoc and he appointed John Cody as his agent to make the selection and carry on any farming operations necessary. The suction was R.S. 91 of 100 ac near the foot of the Bridle Track and on the bank of the Heathcote and there was also 500 ac e- em p ive rights on the hill Adjoining it. Corde built a house, on it at a cost of £100. Fitz Gerald also had instructions from Gooey and the agents naturally had some differences. Selfe accompanied Livid Lyttelton out to Canty in '68. Fitz Gerald said, re the judgeship "Chapman did not resign so it fell through . His son James came out to N.Z. and his career. was distin gushed by a good deal of betting and drinking.
