Marks/Inscriptions: 5 157 IS eley Edward or Edwin Percy (1839- 1903) was born in Eng ., the 2 son of Thos Henry Sealy of Clifton, Bristol where he was educ. . He arrived at Lylt by the Clontarf in 59 and joined relative on the Run now known as Patoka about 30 miles from Napier. Tho years later he joined the survey staff in Hawkes Bay and after 4 years, came to Canty. as dist. surveyor. He was first stationed at Ashburton and later ot in North Canty From '73 he had been living in the Timaru dist and farming 2000 ac there . He also bought Rockwood in the Te Ngawai dist and farmed it fas 5 years and Ellerslie, near Geraldine t During the time he was working as a surveyor , he did much exploration in the Southern Alps , where Haast had been the only traveller up to then ; Haast named Mt. Sealey in his hou our e was a successful list grapheme and took some splendid photographs in the Alps. He also took photographing of the West Coast Rd which were exhibited in the Vennall Exhibition and were awarded a gold medal Dr Barker saw his photographs and sand that he was the best photographer out here and seme f his were equal to Anything he had seen in Eng. He was farming in Mt. Grey Downs in '68 . He had made a wonderful collection of tropical lepidoptera and also collections of buds eggs from Gt. Breda, Aust. and N.Z. He was a director the Farmers Co. op. Assoc. of Timaru. marr. 13.10.73 Frances Sarah eldest dau of Thos Sanderson of Greta Peaks. Bishop Hen per. He d. 30.10.03 Francis Barker a witness. She d.
