Marks/Inscriptions: R. 192 Richards Joseph (1829 -1912) was 2 son of Henry Slater Rechar F of Craven House , Bridge orth . Sal op. He and his brother came out together in the Sir Go Seymour our in 1850 and each bought a 50 ac section on the Harewood Rd. Joseph farmed this and called it Coven Farm. He was described by Law rene Gee as a ty preca John Bull who could carry an enormous quantity liquor and could still sit on his horse which would carry him safely hore . He was very b.g and powerful: He could catch a bullock by the hois and ther ow . he once got his face caught ly a hoi Aus d had it torm D Coward served it up He was jovial and happy a twenty stone man. In the Ch.Ch show of 62 he show ed more cattle than any ore except perhaps the Deans trustees . He had a good sale of stock in Feb. 66. He sold all his stock in 67 - 12 cows , 16 steers and 260 ewes . He presided over the harves t home dinner at the Papanui Hotel Mar. 69 . His home was on the Northern end of )lam Rd. It has since been Added to and as is now St. Wii freds Convalescent Host but Mrs Reynolds, dau of Joseph Richards says it Cooks much the same as she cam remember it in her youth, The gales and gale po fam. inf : pass list.
