Marks/Inscriptions: R. 173 Rhodes Sir Robert Heaton (1861- was the eldest son of Robert Heaton - Rhodes of Purau. He us ed to go up to St Leonard as a boy . He became keen os volunteering and joined the C. Y.C. as a trooper and 8 commanded the Company from 1902.- 07. He commanded the C.Y.C f detachment to the Coronation . John Deans succeeded him, then to hi Percy Acton Adams and H.C. Hurst. He was a keen polo player but had to give it up after a very Severe fall. He stood for the Heathcote 3 seat for Part in Dec. 9o and was defeated by Tanner a labou man 1 854 -642 The general maritime strike was just over and this favored Tanner. He represented Ellesmere 99- 1925 beating W. H. X) 's in 99. He was Postmaster General 1912-.15 and Minister - Montgomery b of Defence 1920-26. He was acted K.B.E. 1920 and K.C.V.0 1927. 8 He was a veng good looking man with great charm of manner. f When he got married he bought a block of Port Hills County near p Tar Taproom , built a luge house there and lard out a garden and g romesco on n scale rare in N.Z. He was a well known judge at flower show s . He had an infinite knswkilge of the trees , shrubs and flowers rat O2hana. marr. 20.5.91 Josie Cooper dau Water Clark of Cleara . Vic.
