Marks/Inscriptions: F 128 Parsons, Capt. Albert Parr (1829-97) was born at Peters field . Han ts went to sea and became a master mariner . He had been in the Chirac trade and had been in command a merchant ship trading from Melbourne He was in command f the Ambrosine which arrived at Lylt. 15.2.60 In 61 when the Otago gold rush set in he commanded and was part owner of the Ashburton which ran stock acr oss from Melbourne to Port Chalmers He lost this ship and te he then gave up the sea and settled at Fernside G.M. assig who left a Log came out in the Ambrosine and left the following description. The Ambrosine was an old vessel of about 600 tons, poorly fitted for a long voyage: accommodation and food for steerage were bad. Capt. Parsons was a splendid seaman and a gentleman who did his ut most to mitigate the miseries s of the protracted voyage. The sails were rotten. Capt. P.'s alertness and excellent Seaman ship served the vessel from disaster. The passage was of t20 days. The Abbot famil y of the North Road were passengers in the Ambrosine and Capt. Parsons became engaged to one of the girls and married her a mon th after they arrived.
