Marks/Inscriptions: A145 Norris , William Edward (1833-73) was one of the stewards at the Queens Birthday Ball 24.5.59. He was sec. of the Heathcote Sch. Comm Mar 65 which was at that time working with the Educ. Bd. to get a school started at Heath cote. about half the tunnel workers wae quartered in the Hea th cote Valley. Later he was schoolmaster at the Lower Heathcote Sch . He brought an action again st J.H. Hopkins chairman of the Sch. comm for wron fuel dis missal . The defence was that the school inspector had often complained to the Bd. Educ. of the bad conduct of, the school and the Bd. had with. drawn the Govt grant. Novis failed in his action Nov. 70. He was a stalwart of the Total Abstinence Soc. He was oue of the Comm. set up to organize the Woolston Pub. Library . oct. 71 He was later appointed Se. and he baan . He was clerk to the Heathcote Rd. Bd. Sept. 72 . John ollivier who lived nearby audited the accounts and praised his book kep ing. His wife died 25.8.64. at Ferry Road. marr. 25.6.68 Eliz. Bought flour, 35 at Tri. Cong. Church Rev. Wm Habens. He d. 12.8.73 ag 40 Ferry 7 same man - dss not refer to him at widower in M.R. his name pelt Nooriss in Marr Reg.
