Marks/Inscriptions: N. 98 Nichols , Alfred (184- 1917) was trained as a schoolma is ter at the Borough Rd Training Coll in London under Sir T. Fitch. He came out to Victoria and taught there, asd ) In 77 he arrived in N.Z. and went straight to Akaroa where he had been offered and accepted the position o ) head master of the Akaroa Public Sch. He remained there for 30 years. He was a lay reader at St. Peters Akaroa , a Sunday School teacher and a vestry man . He started the Sunday Sch. in ' He rep . Akaroa in the Syno and continued to do s0 after he retired to Ch.Ch. He took many of the clergy mans duties when Akaroa was w ill out a vicar. He was elected Auditor to the Borough in June 80. He retired on super ann, and ret. to live in Ch.Ch. left a widow, 4 daus. 2 sons. He d. Dean St. St. Albans 25.7.17 ag 76 widow Rosa d 20.4.25 ag 75. son John Robert Akaroa went to Dannevirke and in 07 to Gisborne where he founded the firin of Nicholls + Griffiths. marr. at Gisborne, 07 Cather ie dau. Geo. Wrat son Geo. left to join R.F.C. He d.
