Marks/Inscriptions: N. 86 Newton, Robert (1823 -1907) came out with his wife + family of 4 ch. in the Roman Emperor arriving 27.1.60. His wif e was Eliza Checkley a sister of Geo. Checkley , a carp. of Akaroa. The family went of insect to Akaroa and took ip land in Aylmer s Valley Robert Newton , George Checker and Bales were the thre ney who built the new C. of church in Akaroa in '63. He built a ( homestead for himself in Aylmer Valley where he bought land . He called his farm Lincoln after his birthplace and he cleared , fenced it and stocked, - with cattle .Later he saved cocks foot seed and carried sheet and reduced his dairy herd Besides his skill as a carp. and cabin t maker he was A Kee gardiner and always showed at flower shows .
