Marks/Inscriptions: N. 79 the hands of trustees, and the motion was carried. He was one of the first students to receive his B.A. degree from Canty Coll. H.T. Hill . schoolteacher was the other but Hill was Absent and So Newton was actually the first man to receive his degree e1solheim He was given a presentation when the left Heathcote Sch. Ap. 78 fr om the chil dren and parents. His wife opened a aloe school fan.809 at Sumner , and he was giving lectures at the Normal Sch. The principal f the Normal school announced that 16 students had been al of th entered for exam nation and 16 passed and the credit was dere to Newton and Watkins pov. 68 He was for a time master at the High School naso although he was not a Presbyterian. y Turnbull said the High school was not deu ommatoal - they catered for Any relig ion and got them. He was an active member ( e of Timity Cong. Church. When the Church was in its early years , Newton used to go out to Tai Taper to hold services and Janis Ford used to take hua out in his 919 and help with the services ; He was a deacon T.C.C. He got to know T.S. Marr erin well and nursed him through ing " a serious illness; Mannering had a very high opini of h m. His last job was as director of Lylt.
