Marks/Inscriptions: N. 748 Murphy , Dennis was born in Ireland , joined the Army and rose to the rant of Sergt in the 92 n Reg. stationed in Afghanistan un der Lord Roberts. The Reg.t. was sent to N.Z. when the Maori troubles bey an and he was one of the guards sent to the Chat hams to look after Te Kostis . He ether remained there or returned there and was the dill sergt. when all the Europeans were collected at Lake House awaiting a Ma0ri attack which never came He married the waitress at one f the hotels , had a large family and lived in comfort on his army pen sion with the Maoris at Waitangi. The children started their working life at Chudleigh.s station and, of one of them, Willie .
