Marks/Inscriptions: G.L. Mills M 322 in that lonely station . They lived at Ask eaton when they were at Kaiapoi formerly belonging to one of the Beswick brothers. He was elected a member of the Canty Philosoph Soc. Dec. 68. He took an active part in rowing at Kaiapoi and acted as cach which evidently he was well qualific ( to do. Kaiapoi was second only to Ch.Ch. as a centre of rowing and had the best water in the Provin ce. Mrs Mellish christened the new boat of the Kaiapoi Boating Club ' The Pere and champagne was drunk out of pewter ing s which which had been won as rowing prizes Nov. 71 ."It was rowed away by Jameson, C.E. Dudley, W. Burnip and H.J. Wood. Mellish war spoken of as a good and experienced coach. He was elected to the Kaiapoi Sch. Comm. Oct 74. He judged at the Ch.Ch. Rose show Dec. 74 . He had ist been transferred to Ch.Ch to take the place of C.C. Bowen . Caleb Whit for d succeeded him at Kaiapoi . He was elected a Gov. of Canty Coll Sept. 75 He was a lay in ember f the synod in 75. He was a member of a Synod Comm. that was erasing into Synod frances and they called Willock the bursar to give evidence. Col Packe lived at The Greys on the Ricc. Rd corner and Turrell school Midmonth was further south in Han sons Lane A brother Alfred Lilly was in Canty for a time. Teschemakers Journal 18.4.60 mentions " the tuo hessrs M ellish called here for an hour to alfred Cook at Locke harts country M A.L. Mellish sold his furniture and left 2 sons at Xs Coll. for Eng.
