Marks/Inscriptions: R. 12 Kaye, Albert (1850 -1920) was born in Hinders tied) oksana . and was ecu. at Forest - House School , W oed for d Green, Essex. He started life as a shipping clerk and afterwards worked for sever al years in the Lindon + Westminster Bank. He came oat to Adelaide in 71 and after a short time in the Nab. Bank of Aust. , became manager for W. + R. Cave + Co. grain +' Shipping merchants, Port Adelaide. He resigned in Nov. 83 and arrived in Ch.Ch soon afterwards and founded the well known fam of Kaye + Carter shipping grain 1 edie.ch. They owned the Canty Flour Miles , Ash burton in Jan. 90 He was an enthus ras tie member of the Chamb of Comm. which he joined in '84 , also of the Employers Assoc. He was an elder of Knoedler Church and supt. of the Sum day Sch. He was a generous giver to the Church Ars Kaye conduct ad a large Bible class. She was Editor of the Presby. Womans Missionary hmnzs paper the "Harvest Field " She was Prev. Ch. Ch. Y.W.C. a for 20 years . He was pres of the )I. in C. A twice and together with Dr Irving, founded the Ch.Ch Beaut.ly Assoc. He was an enthusiastic Supporter t ing( of Music and was Vice.pee. of the Ch.Ch. Musical Amin. 1905 - 1912 and raised for it as well as g hims . When he and his wife were in Auck Mar. 95 for a wedding. they drove , wet clown to the wharf in a cab on a daura k urge to catch the boat . Mrs ( walked over the edge into the harbour , and he , although unable to swine jumped after her . They were quickly Fished ont by a boat. aud the cab driver also mp ed in to help.
