Marks/Inscriptions: J. 149. Johnston, James (1857 -1926) was born in Ireland and arrived in N.Z. in 76 and joined the Canty Police. He was stationed at Lincoln, Akaroa , Waiare , Culverden , Rangiora. (There were 2 James Johnston both stationed at Rangiora He was promoted to Sergt and transferred to St Albans and after another 2 years was promoted to Senior Song. in charge of the station. In 1912 he became sub inspector at Auck then Gisborne In 1918 he was Inspector, stationed Auck. He retired in 1922. He followed every form of sport. wife Ada. He died Shirley 14.1.26 ag. 69.
