Marks/Inscriptions: H. 398402 Heath John William (1818-88) served in the British Army in India and f harst an and rose to be a segr t. in the 3 Light Drag ons and held 4 medals for bravery, He was with General Padlock in the KHyber Pass in the Afghan war of 39- . He was at Kabul when the fort fictions were destroyed. He came to N.Z. with his wife +ch. and settled in Rangiora about 2 school, . He had had a good education and opened which he carried on for some years , at the same time that Chas Merton opined his. Then he started in business as a bootmaker . He was pound keeper in '65 He came out in the Cameo 11.7.59 with his wife and a son + dau. he left an invalid widow He d. of heart disease 15.10.88 ag. 70 a marr. dau. widow Eliza Susannah d. 11.12.93 ag 63 2 sons. son Thos.
