Dean Walter (1848- 1930) was the 14' child of Bishop Harper and was born at Stratfield Mortimer, Berks and came out with his parents in the Egmont arriving 3.12.56 . He behaved very badly in church when his father was installed Xmas Day '56. He was Hood educ. X's Coll '57 -68 and was Head of the school won Buller + Reay Scholarship '66 : played for St 64-66 -67 (Capt.) and for 2v capt. B3.19 75 3 , M.A. 75 Trinity Coll, Oxford . He was curate of Babington Cheshire 73-75 and married there. ordained Prest 75 by Bishop of Chester He came out to N.Z. and was vicar of Ellesmere 76-82 and vicar of St. Michaelis - . He was principal of the Upper Dept. X's Coll in 93. He was sub. dau in 93 and Dean o Ch.Ch. 1901-13. He was a Fellow of X's Coll 85-1920 : Sub. Warden X3 Coll '98 -1919 : mem be Canty. Coll Bd. 95-97. 27.9. 2 marr. '75 a dau. of T.A. Hope of Babington , Cheshire, She d. 1880 and the parishioners of Ellesmere put a window in St. James's Ellesmere in her memory. marr.
