Marks/Inscriptions: H. 157 Har dy , Charles Albert Creery (1843 -1922) was born in Co. Armgh , Ireland and was educ. by the Church Educ. Soc. , Ireland and came out in 63 landing at Dunedin. He went to Nelson gold fields in 68 and then to Greymouth. He settled in Rakaia in 79 ard kept a large general store there. He was vicars churchward St Marks South Rakaia Cp 79. At the Ashburton Industrial Exhibition of Mar. 80 , he showed a collection of fens that won him a first prize. was chair man S. Rakaia sch . Comm. Jan. 85. He gave great help to to the mined in the Rakaia Rly. accident Mar. 99. He was a keen politician and was an extreme conservative . He was elected to Pail. for selwyn in '99 and again in o2 when he got 1263 defeating J. Ivess (89g) and h. Wilson(394). He represented Selwyn for 12 years ard was defeated in 191 by W.J. Dickie in 1911 . He went to the Leg. Coun. in 1913 He was a quetta member with a reputation for Wisdom. Outside politics he was a golly companion and a shrewd ly humorous critic of men and affairs He d. of a stroke in Wgtn 28.8.22. ag. 78. marr. 1) Mary . who d.
