Marks/Inscriptions: H. 129, Hanmer Thomas (1827- - 92 ) was a son of William Hanmer of the Inner Temple, barrister. at. law who marr. Euphemia Maria , only dau. and heir of John Forbes of Boded Hall . He was b. 22.7.27 and came out in the Castle Eden which arrived 7.2.51. In his application to the Canty Assoc. for land orders for 200 ac. he gave his address as Bod od Hall. He selected his R.S. 117 on the Fendall Touni Rd. Charlotte Godley saw a lot of him . He called on her , having visited Vols before he left Eng and gave her all the news from home; so she was particularly well dis posed towards him. He was to have sailed to Aust. in the Maria which was lost with all on board , including Wm.Deans , except two hands. He and Mason took a boat to try and catch her but just missed. Hanmer Plaisir believed to be named after Thomas: confirmed by a letter published in P.15.2.24 written by Charles Leech , hen manage n at Nightie ld. Thomas Hanmer was one of the founders of the Ch. Ch. Club - founded in '56 : s0 presumably he was living in Canty them.
