Marks/Inscriptions: H. 1005 Hampton, Rev. David Or ( was tutor to the Hay boys at Pigeon Bay for a time ; he may have been a relation. He then kept a school at Timaru. He then took holy orders and his first parish was Ross, West Cast. From there he was appointed resident mission curate of the Bays where he remained t - 78. He was put in charge of Kaiapoi 79-83 9v and this was a difficult parish to deal with. Carlyon 3 stormy cure of Kaiapoi had just come to an end. The congregation was split, Carlyon being a string high church man and Carly ons successor W.F. Oldham having died soon after his ins tit ut,on. Finances were Weak but a bazaar raised £212 which helped matters. an organ was installed during his a racy. Another bazaar in Aug. 1880 raised £.236. He chose Caleb whit ford for his church warden Ap. 7 and the peoples church Warden was E. Revell ; both of these had been strongly anti. Carlyon. At a vestry meting in Oct. 79 he offered to resign as he had only come to fell a gap. However there was a general feeling in his favour and so he stayed. The parish was hard up and he offered to take L 200 instead of £ 300 This offer was ust taken by the ves try. Marks/Inscriptions: H.1055 He said he was satisfied that he had re united the parish. The Rev. E. Cong followed him protein. After Kaiapoi he was at Ones town. Milton, Green Island , Taieri. He went to the North Is. about 1904 and acted temporarily at Palea , Masterton Carterton; then settled at I land Bay wgtn. Before he went to the school at Timaru he was schoolmaster at St. Lil 's school following Taylor Jan. 66. Before that he had conducted evening classes at St Michaels. marr. at St. Marks.
