Marks/Inscriptions: H. 59 Halsted , William (1836- was born in Halifax , Yorks, and learnt the thade of a fellmonger . He forw ed his trade till he left in the Shootin 8 star in '58 and landed in Auck. He worked in Auck and d Hawkes Bay Heleft y the reringaed 2.60.) and saved 30 with which he took e trip to the Aust. gold fields. Ih 2 years he made £1000 and lost it all except £5o in speer lati on. He returned to N.Z. and worked at Oamaru at wool sorting for 3 years. He the became salesman in a large store and Wool value. In , 6 he went to Pleasant Pt. and classes d wool at the Levels for several years and scoured the Levels clip. He started a fell mongering business at Pleasant Bont and won mary medals for his scoured wool . He was chairman of the Domai Bd , of the Cemetery Bd. and of the sch. om m. at Pleasant Pt. In Oct. 69 when he was doing a g o0d buses and his accounts were kept by G.G. Russell + 6 and he was in their debt, oue Thomas Shaw obtained a judge ent against him for a debt under £50 . Although his statement of bankruptcy was filed the R.M. , Woollcombe, sanctioned the bailif taking possession and selling all the assets valued at £ 132 for a paltry debt Judge Greson was very antico of the R. M.s action. Halstead was granted Mit afes his discharge Oct. 69. . He marr .'57 Mary Carers T of Craven, Yorks and she followed p N.Z.11: L T. 4.2.60 : 8.10.6 him from Yorks in '61. Shed.
