Marks/Inscriptions: H. 35 Hall, Frederick Charles -1907) was born in Sydney and was educ. in London whence in '66 he set sail with his wife + 4 ch. in the Blue Jacket. He settled at Waltham r and entered Wynn - Williams 's law office; later he moved to Hanmer and Harper . From there he became confidential clerk and book. keeper to T.D. Acland and Campbell q.v. who at that time had minor stock and station agency. He was elected to the comm. of the resuscitated Colorist Soc. , Sept. 71 of which John Olliver was pres. and dif organiser. He was also see. of the Poplar Amusements Assoc. Dec. 71 . He did mich valuable work for alt let ic societies in Ch.Ch. He was collecting funds for building the first Waltham School in Dec. '71 and was a member of the sch . comm. when Capt. Bullock q.v. resigned his position as chairman of the Sch. Comm. . Hall succeeded him as chair man. He was one of the secretaries of the Anniversary Sports in Dec. 72 . He did great work in getting the Waltham School dished by Jan. '73 and was congratulated by Rolleston at the opening ceremony. This was the first brg Govt School in Ch.Ch. and the headmaster , John Cumber worth , was probably the best available at the time. It later became known as Sydenham School bat was known as Colombo Rd. sch. for some years. Marks/Inscriptions: H. 35 He was a French scholar - or, at any rate. could speak French reasonably ll. He and Beechey , q.v. advertised a cricke Francais dinner , Mar. 74. He was appointed French consul in Ap. 74. In the great athletic meeting organised for Dec. 75 the 25v Anniversary of the Landing, e was as usual ap ting entries. He was elected to the new Sydenham Bor Coun. Oct 77. acepti He stood unsuccess filly for a seat on it Sept. 8 . In Mar. 84 he said he thought it was hopeless to attempt to collect money for the new paper runners picnic. which he had been doing for some years ; the derision was well advanced. However he did in the end make a collection. He was sec. of the soc. which owned the Free Thought Hall , where lectures were gwen. The Ch.Ch. C.C. sued the Soc. for organising a lecture without getting a licen ; the case was dismissed June 84. He was chairman Sydenham Sch. Comme. May '90. In Dec. '92 he left Acland and started business on his own. He gave free French tuition to night students W for 15 years .
