Marks/Inscriptions: G.808 Gunnell , Thomas William (1837 -1926) arrived at Timaru by the Minerva in 1859 . Soon after he came to Ch.Ch. and became manager and buyer fo Cv.H. Mein the well- known butcher. When he left Mein he started his own shot at the comer of Armagh St and Manchester St. Then he was appointed manager of the Smithfield works at Timaru . From Timaru he moved to Southland and was appointed mana ger of the Mataura and Wallacetown mcat works. The climate did not sit Mrs Gunnell and he moved to Oamaru and managed the Oamaru Works till he retired at the age of 60. He came to live in Ch.Ch. in 1896. marr.
