Marks/Inscriptions: G. 876 Grubb. John , June. (1856-1914) was born at Lylt. the son of John Grubb, shipwright He went to sea about '68 and sailed to Hobart and got a job with a Tasmanian firm of ship owners . He returned to Lylt and joined the form of Cuff + Graham as master of the keck Sarah + Mary. Later he was in charge of the Mary van Every, trading to Dunedin. Later he was master of the Marion . He was mate on the Govt. steamer Hinemaurea He then joined the Northern St Eam ship Co Auck, in charge of the steam tig Oher muri, towing between Arching a and Kaipara. Re gave this up in 1912 owing to ith heath and lived with his brother James in Lylt. For a time in the 60's he was in the postal service at Lylt. under Wilkin and in Sept. '69 in the absence of F.E. Wright who was away on leave was Postmaster for Canty. his wife died 14 years before him He d. 20.6.14 ag. 6 al his five children died before him Edward Curry wrote to Gruber in '70 complain ing of the mailman s de ivey LT. 22.6.14 : Curry, Letter Boh; Type of mark: Machine translation/Transcription; Notes: Machine translation by Mark Fryer
