Marks/Inscriptions: G. 851 Griffiths, John (1809- was a blacks mitt. although he described himself in the pass. list as an ag. lab. He arrived by the Travancore 31.3.51 with his wife Eleanor , 40 and his family Ann, 13; Martha, ; Ruth, 9; John, 3'; Mary, 15. He settled on the Lincoln dop site the site of Sunnyside and started his baile mills shop there . He was one of those affected when Cracroft Wilson raised the water level of the Heathcote by building his mill dau and he gave evidence in Archer v. Wilson (LT. 29.9.63) . He later moved to Kaiapoi and made his home in Peak St. His wife Eleanor d. 11.5.82 ag. 70. family. dau. Ruth marr. 5.4.63 Wm. Heslop, blacksmith; they settled in Ellesmere dist. Martha Wm.
