He had been specially engaged to erect the telegraph line over the hill fom Ch.Ch. to Lylt. When finished the occasion was celebrated with great ceremonies aute rejoicing s. It was the ferst t telegraph line in N.Z. He d. 20.4.99 ag. 70 His wife Eliz. d. at Little Akaloa 10.4.85 ag. 64. His home was in Crescent Rd. St. Albans He was a friend of John Batten, the builder. son hester Angus tas marr. 22.12.81 at St Johns, Cat. Sq. Elizabeth Ellen elder dau. of Richard Atkin son L.
