Marks/Inscriptions: G. 365 Gray, George (1849- ) was asst. to Professor Bickerton at Canty Coll. Bickerton made it a condition of his accepting the post that he should be allowed to bring Gray with him. He was born in the New Forest and was educ. at Hartley Coll. Southampton, where he entered on his teaching career. In '83 he was appointed by the Bd. of Gov. of Canty. Coll Lecturer in Chemistry + Physics at the school of Agriculture Lincoln, a position which he held with great credit till he retired in May 1915. He also acted as public analyst and meteorological observer at Lincoln. He published a large number of papers in agricultural science - in particular in rain water, root crops and mixed manures.
