Marks/Inscriptions: G. 34.57 Grant, William (1845-1910) was born in Inverness shire and came out in '64 with his brother Andrew in the Mataka ; they had a long voyage. He was implored by Chas. Tripp as a shepherd . When he left Ovari Gorge he started as a sheep and cattle dealer , taking most of his stock over to the West Coast. He made Temuka his head quarters. He and his brother had part of Rangitata Island in part. In 82 he sold his share and went for a9 tres to Scot. He was given a complimentary dinner at the Coun Hotel at Temuka and 60 sat down. They came from all over S. Canty . Alfred Cox was in the chair. when he came back he bought E1lough ton Grange from Thomas Hall in 83. His dealings became s0 big that he gave upo his dealings north of Temuka to his brother Andrew. He became a large landowne in Otago and Canty. In the Mackenzie Country he owned the Gram pans, Irishmans Crc, and the olds. He retained Grays Hells ( same as the welds ) ) when it was put up again in '97, £350 for 4 years and £14.50 for the following 10 years. 7, paying £ He was a very laye shipper of frozen in eat .
