Marks/Inscriptions: G. 3 25. Graham. I van Rankin Cunningham Colinsarst (1835-1902) usually known as " alphabetical Graham " . The mysterious name which Acland spells "Colin cast is spielt all sorts of ways - Colliers , cornelius cte Acland says he was born at Jar buick , Dumfries shire , was educated at Peebles and at a German Univ. and entered the Commissar at service in '55 . He joined it at Sci tari during the Crimean Campaign. He afterwards served in Jamaica and came to N.Z. when the Maori war broke out. He was quar tend at Wan gann and let contracts to John Grigg among others . After the war in '66 , he sold his com mission and bought Winter slow station as well as a 2000 ac. farm near Ling beach (end of Acland) . He was elected to the Ashburton Rd. Bd. Jan . 69. In Ap. 72 he was lv ing in Ch.Ch and took part in the sch son in the t John the Baptist o on greg aton when the congregation was divided over the Rev. E. Barley. He returned to Ashburton and stood for the Party election of July 84 There were two strong candidates , W.C. Walke e 450 voles , Cathcart t Wason, 432 votes and himself 1vote (probably his own) He was , as it turned out a ridiculous personage whom no one took seriously.
