Marks/Inscriptions: G.2851 Goodacre Edward (1821-78) was a policeman in Ch.Ch. in the early '0's Later he opened a drapery and general store in Glos. St. ust west of Chancery Lane next to Papprill the tailor. In the 60's the s building was converted into a public house under the name of the union Jack. He was in part. with Robert Thompson but the part. was diss. Sept. 58. His stock in trade was advertised to be sold under a distress wan aut in Oct. 60. However son afterwards he in formed his cents that he was making a fresh start with a new stock of goods . In Nov. '61 his Glos. St. shop was advertised for sale on behalf of the nor gag.ee . He was imprisoned in the Lylt. Gaol for debt but. under the nes Imprison ment for Debt Ordinance , he petitioned the Court and obtained his release. Alfred Pigeon was the detaining creditor. His shop and land were sold by J hi Ollivier for £1500. He was bankrupt again in Jan. '63 and was advertising clearing out bankrupt stock again i Dec. 64 Later he became Inspecto n of Buildings to the Ch. Ch.C.C. He was bankrupt. in ' and Judge Gesso on said he was not satisfied and adjourned his ease. Hes brother sent him out £50 worth of goods for him to starting Again. He handed over the bill of lading as a security for other goods . Bench : G.
