Marks/Inscriptions: G. 159. Giles , Edmund Douglas (1852-1926) was born in Somerset shire and was educ. at the Brentwood Grammar Sch. In '68 he came to Nelson in the ship John Bunyan and ( worked there in the Govt. Survey Dept. and did survey work on the west Coast gold fields. He there went to Ames land and was a cadet on the Cameron rin at the head of the Warre river. He worked on various large stations and was manager of Portland Downs and then of Well shot of half a million aces. He then vis ted the South Sea Is. and became a planter for a few years. He returned to N.Z . in 79 and in '8 was appointed manager of Horsley Down station and remained there for 16 years. He was the appointed manager of Mt. Parnassus Station , the property F.A. Anstey whom he had kn own in Aust. Mt Pamassas was station of 44000 ac. ; Anstey had died in 193 and left his property in trust for his family. In 1902 a homestead was built which later became the home of G.L. Ru the ford . formerly manager of mend ip Hells and a son of A. W.Rutherford. one of the Anstey fuses was a Col. Yonge who used to come oct one a year from Eng; he had married a hiss Anstey. Mt Par casas was cut up into 5 blocks for the prose of selling in 1903-04 . They were known as Mt Stewart , Lancrcost. Pierces (later called Anstey) Jollie's and homestead. G.h.Rutherford bought the Cyclop N.Z. 11. Acland ; Cresswell. He was a member of the Canty . A.+P. Assoc. , a steward and clerk scales at the Anoi Turf Club and a mem ver of the Annui Rabbit Bd Dais He was one of the owners of Mt Helton in part. with his brother in lew Wm. Cyms on 4.1.19 13 this blacks of Mt Parnassus were offered for sale. T.W.Wilkinson bought 713 ac. at £ 12.15.0 . Thos Deet bought 24 ac. at £34. Geo Sanson bought after the sale lots , 500 ac. in all. marr. 6.8.90 Bessie Mortimer 4' dau of Cyrus Davie . She d. Camb . Ter. 26.11.28. He d. 24.1.26 at A ranches , France ag 74. lift 1son 3 dau. at the time of his death his home was Ot iti, Timaru. 3' dau. Prudence marr. 8.5.17 Hugh Miller 2' son J.D. macfarlane of Hawkswood P.
