Marks/Inscriptions: G. 122 Gibbs , Isaac (1851- 1914) was born at Norton , Oxford shire and was educ. at Cowley near Oxford. He had a business train ing and worked in the office of Woo ley, Same ers + Co. merchants , Wood Street, London . He came out in '73 and spent 4 years in Sydney where he was with Gilchrist and west on, mine managers. In '76 he settled in Can ty and entered the service of the N.Z. Shipping Co as a clerk in the head office, Ch.Ch. He rose to be general manager in N.Z. of the Company after 10 years as Sec. He was a member of the Lylt. Harb. Bd. '92 and of the Chamber of Comm. of which he was chairman 95-96. He was chairman of the Lylt. H.B. in '99. He was for many years churchwarden of Merv ale and was very helpful in the parish to Arid. Gossett He paid a visit to Eng. in '97.
