Marks/Inscriptions: G.5.8 Gaffney , Michael (1836-191) was born at Beeper , Derbyshire and came out to N.Z. in 58 in the Cresswell. He went to Timaru and was employed by the Rh odes Bros. for many years principally at bush work and fencing . He was the first to take a wag on kiam into the Mackenzie County (?) and was engaged in corry ing for some years. In '61 he bought land in the Levels. He lived on a farm of 548 ac. and had another 252 ac near Wash dyke and a good deal of town property . He called his farm Belin after his birthplace. He was a member of the S. Canty Hunt Club for many years and took a general interest in sport. marr. in Ch.Ch. Maggie Brosnahan 26.12.63 He d. 11.7.1911 family of 12. His estate valued at p 15820. Cyclop.
