Marks/Inscriptions: F. 298 Fowler, Walter Longney (1830 -1919) was born in the Gloucester village of Leonard Stanley , where his father Thomas Foster had a farm called Prairie Farm He worked on his fathers farm until 51 when he went to Wood chester , 4 miles away. In '58 he left for N.Z. and landed at Nelso n and took upland at Richmond. There he farmed for 5 years and then went to the Amuri and took up a far back run which he called Stanley Vale of 20000 ac. It was north of St James's and was poor country. North of it again was Lake Gymn whel belonged to W.T. L. Travers who had named it from spencers Farriers Oneness In '75 the McArthur Bros of S1 James's and Travers of Lake Guyon prosecuted him for altering the earmarks of some of their sheep with an intent Fowler . to steal . Poor old raes was not dishonest but was distinctly queer. The McArthur , to get evident a planted a detective on Fowlers run in the form of a rouse about looking for a job. He stayed there nearly a year spying os Travers. as a result of the trial Fowler was found not piet guilty by the Jury Fowle without retiring Ap. 75. Following this McArthur siedle the Mc Arthurs for e 5000 dau ages for libel and got a verdict of '4'). When he got Joynt on the job for him , Joynt got chaucer of berne and finally got £ 400 damages for him. His son stanley gave evidence in the case. Tom Fowler managed Molsworth for Fuho mann + willis bir. Courtenay Cem. He came out in the Chieftain bound for Nelson + Canty , sailed 24.5.58 with his wife a dau.F. a son t. and an infant Hes son William b. Stanley Yale in 72 stayed in the Hanmer dist all his life. worked for 1c Aru for 11 years . He had for a time switchback Farm. He had taken a wagon over Another so Thos all sorts of likely +unlikely places.
