Marks/Inscriptions: F. 102 17.6.23 Field, George (1824 -1915) was born at Tho by Fen, Lines , the son of Nathaniel Field and his wife Mary Chamberlain ; his father was a farmer. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 19 and sailed 10.1.45 with troops for 8 Hobart in the Elizabeth o+ Henry. He left Sydney for N.Z. in the British P Sovereign and landed at the Bay of Islands on Xmas Day 1845. He was in the 58" Reg. and took part in the serge of Ruapekapeka. He sailed for f.e Wgtn in the Calliope ( Capt. Stanley) and took part in the engag amen6s in the Wellington and Wanganui diss. He left the Anny and came to Lylt. 8l in '51 in the cutter Fly. He married in '52 and settled in Port Levy and bit ' by bit built up a good property there . Later he leased i t to one of his sons. ) He was elected to the Port Levy Rd . Bd in when Rd. Bos were started and , was re-elected Jan. 67. He was a member of the Port Levy Sch. Camm. Nov. 74. husband marr. 24.5.5 Louisa Jane Nip1ess who came out in the Charlotte Jane with her bother. They celebrated their golden wedding in the Bay. All the family were there and gave their parents a smart gig and harness. They retired to Ch.Ch in 1904. Her husband Henry d. Ap. 51. He d. 9.2.1915 ag. 91 first ol the Pilgrims to die with the she 27.4.08 80 exception of John Williams. They were bur. in Papanui Cem. also their Her maiden name was Louisa Jane Walter. dau Sarah Ann 1869- 1944. Akaroa s B.P. : James Hay : LT. Jan. 64 : 5.11.74 : pass list. Canty.
