Marks/Inscriptions: F. 102 17.6.23 Field, George (1824 -1915) was born at Tho by Fen, Lines , the son of Nathaniel Field and his wife Mary Chamberlain ; his father was a farmer. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 19 and sailed 10.1.45 with troops for 8 Hobart in the Elizabeth o+ Henry. He left Sydney for N.Z. in the British P Sovereign and landed at the Bay of Islands on Xmas Day 1845. He was in the 58" Reg. and took part in the serge of Ruapekapeka. He sailed for f.e Wgtn in the Calliope ( Capt. Stanley) and took part in the engag amen6s in the Wellington and Wanganui diss. He left the Anny and came to Lylt. 8l in '51 in the cutter Fly. He married in '52 and settled in Port Levy and bit ' by bit built up a good property there . Later he leased i t to one of his sons. ) He was elected to the Port Levy Rd . Bd in when Rd. Bos were started and , was re-elected Jan. 67. He was a member of the Port Levy Sch. Camm. Nov. 74. husband marr. 24.5.5 Louisa Jane Nip1ess who came out in the Charlotte Jane with her bother. They celebrated their golden wedding in the Bay. All the family were there and gave their parents a smart gig and harness. They retired to Ch.Ch in 1904. Her husband Henry d. Ap. 51. He d. 9.2.1915 ag. 91 first ol the Pilgrims to die with the she 27.4.08 80 exception of John Williams. They were bur. in Papanui Cem. also their Her maiden name was Louisa Jane Walter. dau Sarah Ann 1869- 1944. Akaroa s B.P. : James Hay : LT. Jan. 64 : 5.11.74 : pass list. Canty. A non-machine transcription Field, George (1823-1915) was born at Tholby Fen, Lincs, 17.6.23, the son of Nathaniel Field and his wife Mary Chamberlain; his father was a farmer. He enlisted in the army at the age of 19 and sailed 10.1.45 with troops for Hoabrt in the Elizabeth ?& Henry. He left Sydney for NZ in the British Sovereign and landed at the Bay of Islands on Xmas Day 1845. He was in the 58th Regt and took part in the siege of Ruapekapeka. He sailed for Wgtn in the Calliope (Capt Stanley) and took part in the engagements in the Wellington and Wanganui dists. He left the army and came to Lytt[elton] in '51 in the cutter Fly. He married in '52 and settled in Port Levy and bit by bit built up a good property there. Later he leased it to one of his sons. He was elected to the Port Levy Rd Bd [Road Board] in '64 when Rd Bds were started and was re-elected in Jan 67. He was a member of the Port Levy Sch Comm [school committee] Nov 74. Marr 24.5.52 Louisa Jane Nipress, who came out in the Charlotte Jane with her husband. They celebrated thrir golden wedding in the Bay. All their family were there and gave their parents a smart gig and harness. They retired to Chch in 1904. Her [Louisa's] husband Henry d Ap 51, first of the pilgrims to die with the exception of John Williams. Her maiden name was Louisa Jane Walter. He [George] d 9.2.1915 ag 91. She [Louisa] d 27.4.08 ag 80. They were bur in Papanui Cem, also their daur Sarah Ann 1869-1944.
