Marks/Inscriptions: C. 436 Eldest Cochran, John Moore (1834 -84) was the son of Major James Cochran of H.M. 415) Reg. who d. 14.4.76 at 68 Eston Terrace, Dublin ag. 84. John and his brother James arrived by the Red Rover 29.8.6 7 cabin . There were also a Mr + Mrs Cochran on board. He bought Mt. White from E.C. Minchin in May '70 in partnership with Gray. Gray was probably one of the Gray brothers then living at the Kowhai Forks. The Grays and the Cock rans were friends. He joined the Canty. Rowing Club in Sept. '71. He was elected to the Upper Waimak. Rd. Bd. Jan 73. He presided at the diner given to Reginald Foster when he left Craigieburn. June '76 . He was a steward at the Kowhai Pass Races Ap. 80. marr. at Riccarton Church 29.11.73 Fanny Sarah 2' dau Capt. J.H. Miller of the Madras Dray. Capt. Miller was a son of Major Miller (1 Horse Guards) of Dal swinton . His brother James marr. Another Muss Miller and Douglas Camp bell of Craigie burn also marr. a Muss Miller. witness at wedding James Cochran of Mt While and Albert and Ernest Gray. He dist himself at Mt. White + d. next day 25.5.84. His brother James said that over worrying he had not been quite ag. 50 right in his head for some months. He was bur. at trice. Cem.
