Marks/Inscriptions: . 386 C Clifden Walter Loveland (1851 -1942) was the second son of Sir Charles Clef red and was born at Boulton St, Wgtn. When he was ten years old his father took the family off to England to be educated. He was sant to Beaumont and was then trained as a cid engineer . He worked on the Thames Tunnel , the Severn Tanne . the London Underground , the Parth Docks , the S.wansey a Docks, and the Dover + Deal Railway. When he was working at Swan sia he met Mess Cather Lambert Bath and married her, about . He brought his wife out to N.Z. and he was engaged of on the West Coast Railway works, first at the Wist Cost end and then at Spring field. He succeeded Henry Va wason as manager o f Fax ouruhia . After the Govt. took over Flax bourne for subdivisio he lived in various houses at Wgtn. but Longest at Hill Stehr He was i England through most of the 1914, Living at asst where he was a special constable . When he returned to N.Z. he settled at ChCh and lived there for the rest of his life. He was probably the oldest holder of a driving license in N.Z. at the time of his death fed 9r. He was a member of the Canterbury Club and an expert snook er player and could play a good sams long after the average man has taken to a bath chair and slippers .
