Marks/Inscriptions: C. 327 Clark, Capt. John William (1834 -1909) was born at Hobart and Educ. there. and went to Ea at an early age. He was engaged in the inter onalbi trade for theirlen years as a master mariner in the service McMeekan and Black wood of Melbourne. When the v.S.5. o. abso oed this business in '79 le joined te Staff of the Lylt. Harb. Bd. as master of the tig ly tifton. Ih his Young days he had traded bel irene Jan Francisco and Aust. . He went into streamers and served under Capt. Mr Melan and later commanded the Tarara, the Goes og the Albion and the Cland Hamilton . He was the first co pt. of the Punga oomph a high class ship in her day. In 8 6 he was appointed to be Harbour muster of the Port of Lylt. and he held this post till 1909.: he succeeded Cept. Hugh McClellan. He apparently had a short Pemph and a great flow of langage, He sued the Pres for libel contained in an anonymous lifter which said among other things the t he was grossly ova paid - annoying and disturbing the ship masters of the Port, dis courteous and rotating. He got a verdict and £25 daura.es. He possessed an rosal unusual rehe in the form of a special license wined by the N.S.W. Got of 2 appointing him one of the flotsam of Sydney Harb.
